Job Description for Level I - SI Leaders
General Duties
- Develop a good working relationship with the SI Coordinator and with the course instructor/professor.
- Be conscientious about the required paperwork – sign-in sheets; attendance spreadsheets; timesheets; planning sheets.
- Promote the program aggressively – talk to the students; email the students; distribute flyers; ask instructor to announce the session times, etc.
- Facilitate study sessions, using skills and techniques highlighted during training and in the training manual.
- Focus on learning strategies/outcomes – what do students need to know after spending an hour with you during the study session?
- Offer study skill “tools” and show students how to determine which tool is appropriate for different learning situations.
- Incorporate critical thinking skills and problem solving skills into study sessions.
- Be aware of student’s issues and know how to refer students to appropriate resources on campus.
- Be flexible and comfortable dealing with people who are different from you. Accommodate different learning styles and different backgrounds/lifestyles in your study sessions.
Additional Duties for Saluki Advantage SI Leaders
- Schedule regular study sessions times in the residence halls for your group members.
- Schedule at least two special activities for the group members for the fall semester.
- Make plans with students in the FIG group to continue their relationships through the spring semester.
