Job Description for Level III - Peer Supervisors
Peer supervisors may elect to earn college credit for their training by enrolling in EAHE 402 (one credit hour, elective course). This course is offered only in the spring semesters.
General Duties
- Develop a good working relationship with the SI Coordinator and with the SI Leaders. Learn how to set appropriate boundaries with students being supervised.
- Be conscientious about required paperwork – session observation plans, evaluations, etc.
- Assist in promoting all programs. This may include making presentations to RSOs and residence hall groups, and at SOAR programs.
- Help facilitate Level One training sessions, using skills and techniques highlighted during training and in the training manual.
- Focus on learning strategies/outcomes – what do SI Leaders need to know about how to do their jobs effectively? Concentrate on providing helpful and supportive feedback to SI Leaders after observation of their study sessions.
- Offer “tools” and show SI Leaders how to determine which tool is appropriate for different learning situations.
- Incorporate critical thinking skills and problem solving skills into training sessions. Help SI Leaders anticipate potential problems, and come up with solutions.
- Be aware of SI Leader’s issues and know how to refer students to appropriate resources on campus.
- Be flexible and comfortable dealing with people who are different. Integrate different learning styles and different backgrounds/lifestyles in the study sessions.
